Chad Elgersma has been appointed by the judges of the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin to continue serving as United States Attorney. This appointment follows his prior service in an interim capacity, which was made by the Attorney General. Elgersma will remain in this role until a permanent appointment is made through the standard nomination process.

This action is pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 546(d), which allows district court judges to appoint a United States Attorney when there is a vacancy and no presidentially nominated and Senate-confirmed candidate has been selected.

“Mr. Elgersma had served on an interim basis under an appointment by the Attorney General. Mr. Elgersma will continue to serve on the basis of this judicial appointment until the vacancy is filled through the nomination process.”
