Chadwick Elgersma has been appointed as the Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, stating, “For however long I serve as United States Attorney, my primary objective will be to keep Wisconsin residents safe through the vigorous enforcement of Federal law.” He emphasized his commitment to protecting national security and addressing issues such as illegal immigration, drug trafficking, financial crime, gang activity, and child exploitation.

Elgersma grew up in Waupun, Wisconsin. He holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and earned his Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law in 2005. His career began with the FBI as a Special Agent in 2006. In 2017, he transitioned to the U.S. Attorney’s Office as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin and became an Assistant U.S. Attorney in 2019.

During his tenure as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Elgersma prosecuted various criminal cases involving interstate drug conspiracies, firearms offenses, Hobbs Act robberies, child exploitation cases, complex white-collar frauds, government program frauds, tax evasion, arson incidents, and immigration-related offenses.

In his new role as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin—an area covering 44 counties—Elgersma will oversee federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation involving the United States.
