Jason Barnard, a 39-year-old resident of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for possessing more than 500 grams of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. The sentencing was handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson in Madison.

Barnard pleaded guilty to the charge on May 9, 2025. According to court records, he sold methamphetamine and fentanyl to a confidential informant twice in October 2024. Law enforcement officers arrested Barnard while he was returning from Minnesota after obtaining drugs from his supplier. During a search of his vehicle, authorities found over two kilograms of methamphetamine, 85 grams of fentanyl, and $3,696 in cash.

At the sentencing hearing, Judge Peterson stated that Barnard’s trafficking involved “vast” quantities of drugs and called it a “very serious crime” with devastating consequences for the community.

The investigation into Barnard’s activities was carried out by the West Central Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Remington prosecuted the case.
