The Eastern District of Wisconsin announced on Apr. 21 that it will co-sponsor a virtual informational session about the Pro bono Work to Empower and Represent Act of 2018, known as the POWER Act. The event is designed for attorneys and aims to highlight the importance of pro bono legal services in supporting survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

The upcoming session seeks to inform both court and non-court attorneys about how they can assist survivors through legal representation. Organizers said that promoting pro bono work is a key way to empower individuals affected by these crimes and encourage broader community involvement.

Attorneys who participate in the event will be eligible for one Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit. Registration is required by May 15, 2026, with more details available on the attached flyer for interested participants.

This initiative reflects ongoing efforts within the legal community to address issues faced by survivors and provide resources through volunteer legal assistance. The event underscores a commitment to increasing awareness among lawyers about their role in helping vulnerable populations navigate complex legal challenges.

Looking ahead, organizers hope that increased participation from attorneys will lead to more robust support networks for survivors throughout Wisconsin.
