A significant law enforcement operation has led to the arrest of thirteen individuals, following the unsealing of a criminal complaint that charges fourteen people with drug trafficking and immigration offenses. The announcement was made by Richard G. Frohling, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
The accused face charges related to narcotics trafficking involving fentanyl and cocaine. Two individuals, Osmar Venejas-Mejia and Hector Rodriguez-Villalobos, are also charged with illegal reentry into the United States after being previously removed.
The defendants include Fernando Palma-Jimenez, Daniel Moralez, Carmelo Hernandez-Ramirez, Luis Quinonez-Hernandez, Reynaldo Sanchez-Gonzalez, Carlos Perez-Santana, Equiel Martinez, Gerardo Osorio-Jaramillo, Jesus Medina-Rodriguez, Erik Rodriguez, Andrea Roa, Hector Rodriguez-Villalobos, Osmar Venejas-Mejia, and Joseph Marincic.
According to the criminal complaint filed against them from March 2023 until now, these individuals conspired to distribute controlled substances using communication facilities. If convicted on narcotics trafficking charges alone, they could face penalties ranging from forty years to life imprisonment depending on specific offenses committed or weights involved in their cases.
In addition to drug-related accusations is an allegation concerning two Mexican nationals who unlawfully reentered America; this offense carries up-to-two-year sentences plus fines reaching $250k upon conviction.
This case results from extensive investigations conducted collaboratively between various agencies such as DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration), HSI (Homeland Security Investigations), DCI (Wisconsin Department of Justice Division Criminal Investigation) alongside HIDTA’s North Central High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas program under Operation Take Back America initiative spearheaded by DOJ’s OCDETFs & PSN projects aimed at combating organized crime networks nationwide while protecting communities against violent crimes perpetrated therein.
Prosecution efforts will be handled jointly through Assistant US Attorneys Gail Hoffman alongside Elizabeth Monfils amidst support provided via multiple federal/state/local entities including FBI
