A Kaukauna man has been sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison following a conviction for methamphetamine trafficking. John R. Sloan, 58, received a 150-month sentence on September 15, 2025, for possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

Court records show that in August 2024, the Lake Winnebago Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group – Drug Unit (LWAM) searched Sloan’s vehicle, home, and several storage units. Authorities seized over seven pounds of methamphetamine, more than $140,000 in cash, four firearms, and a vehicle during the search. Sloan admitted to obtaining large amounts of methamphetamine from California and distributing over 20 pounds of the drug in the Fox Valley region.

Sloan has a criminal history with more than 40 convictions since 1985. At the time of his arrest, he was under state supervision for another methamphetamine distribution offense.

Senior United States District Judge William C. Griesbach ordered Sloan to forfeit $142,190 in cash along with three handguns, a shotgun, and a 2016 Dodge Challenger as part of his sentence.

The investigation was conducted by LWAM with support from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Wisconsin Department of Justice – Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI). Assistant United States Attorney Alex Duros prosecuted the case.
