In a recent court filing in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, plaintiff Lyubomir Goranov has initiated legal action against American Honda Motor Co., Inc. The lawsuit arises from an incident involving a defective lawnmower manufactured by Honda, which resulted in severe injuries to Mr. Goranov. The complaint details that on November 13, 2023, while attempting to start the lawnmower using the manual recoil starter due to a malfunctioning electric start, Mr. Goranov suffered a significant injury when the starter rope retracted unexpectedly. This caused him to fall and sustain an orbital blowout fracture and fractures of the left maxillary sinus, leading to permanent vision loss in his left eye.

The lawsuit alleges strict product liability, negligence, and breach of implied warranties on the part of Honda. It is noted that Honda had previously recalled over 390,000 lawnmowers due to similar issues with improperly manufactured camshafts causing starter ropes to retract suddenly. Despite this recall and reports of numerous incidents and injuries related to camshaft failures, Mr. Goranov’s injury occurred post-recall.

The plaintiff seeks compensatory damages for his injuries as well as punitive damages citing Honda’s reckless disregard for consumer safety.
