A class-action lawsuit has been filed in the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, accusing major egg producers and related entities of conspiring to manipulate egg prices. The plaintiff, Matthew Edlin, represents consumers who purchased conventional fresh shell eggs at inflated prices due to alleged antitrust violations by defendants including Cal-Maine Foods, Rose Acre Farms, Versova Holdings, Hillandale Farms, Daybreak Foods, Urner Barry Publications, Egg Clearinghouse Inc., United Egg Producers, and others. The complaint alleges that these companies coordinated to artificially raise egg prices through manipulated price reporting and information exchanges. This conduct purportedly led to unprecedented price hikes from January 2022 until the unlawful practices were exposed in March 2025. The case also highlights ongoing investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice and the New York Attorney General into potential anticompetitive behavior within the egg industry.
