The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin has announced that it will stop accepting cash payments as of April 1, 2026. After this date, individuals will need to use alternative payment methods for all District Court fees and criminal debt payments, including restitution, fines, and special criminal assessments.
According to the court, “The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin will no longer accept cash beginning on April 1, 2026. The court will continue to accept credit and debit cards, ACH payments, money order, personal checks, and cashier’s checks. This new policy applies to all District Court fees and criminal debt payments, including restitution, fines, and special criminal assessments.”
This change is part of an ongoing effort by various courts across the country to modernize payment systems and reduce reliance on cash transactions.
